Garage
Tour
and
1st Annual
Barbecue @ Dyaarl's
Saturday, March 5, 2011
SJAHC members,
A Garage Tour was finally held on Saturday, March 5th to perfect Healey driving weather.
Most of the participants gathered at Rick Stevenson's, the designated starting point.
Rick and Marilynn Stevenson, Tony Martini, Dyaarl and Gail Anderson, Bill Young and Torbin Reichhardt drove their Healey's. Erling and Sandy Onsager were forced to take up the rear position in the comfort of their Lincoln as the support team. Their Healey was still suffering from the starter problem that it developed on the Jekyll Island run.
Our first stop was at Ellis Ulrich's house, a visit that was arranged earlier that morning by Rick. Ellis is a long time member of the Model A Club & the Antique Automobile Club of America. His garage and outbuildings contain too much to describe here so have a look at the pictures. He then led us over to see a pair of his neighbor's cars, two 1957 Chevrolet's.
From there our tour guide, Tony, took us on an hours drive through lightly inhabited parts of St Johns County and eventually up route 9A to Dyaarl's house. On the way Andy Sanfilippo joined us in his new acquisition, a Sprite powered by a Ford V8 (and an automatic). He enjoyed the drive to Dyaarl's garage by laying back and then passing all of us like we were standing still and then going and doing it again.
When we arrived and gazed upon Dyaarl's new garage, we were all, I believe it is safe to say, 'gob smacked"!!
Torbin, who had left the tour to pick up his wife Sharon and their kids, arrived as did Paul and Vicki Martz and Cindy Bridger.
After we had thoroughly inspected his new facility, we were treated to a fabulous meal, barbecued chicken and pork preceded by lots of 'starters' and followed by a choice of deserts. I for one think that a tour of Dyaarl's garage with barbecue should become an annual event (assuming of course, that Dyaarl and Gail are agreeable).
