Annual
Valentines Day Drive and Brunch
Sunday, February 13, 2011
SJAHC members,
For those fortunate enough to be able to make the trip to Jekyll Island Club for our 6th Annual Valentines Brunch Drive, it was truly a very memorable event full of fabulous food and comfortable conversation shared with dedicated Healey enthusiasts.
John and Nancy Leenhouts, Tony Martini, Erling and Sandy Onsager, Paul and Judy Sandefer, Rick and Marilynn Stevenson, and Bill and Judy Young roared their respective "big British Beasts" to life and braved the cool temperatures for a gorgeous and leisurely 100 mile drive to this quaint historic island in southern Georgia. Jeff and Karen Sager joined the fun as well all bundled up in their 1964 MGB with the top down and Dyaarl and Gail Anderson took up the rear position in the comfort of their Jaguar sedan as our support team.
After over gorging and stuffing ourselves in the elegance of the Grand Ballroom, we took a short trip down to Rick and Marilynn's Georgia "Low Country" home just off the Atlantic coast. The last few miles were done in true Baja style traveling on dirt, sand and finally a grass covered wagon path to arrive at their remote yet majestic cabin on the marshes. Interesting conversations and a few adult libations later we tacked the trek home.
No Healey trip would be complete without some mechanical issue so we were not surprised when Erling's starter refused to operate after our gas stop and required a few pushes to coax it to life. The only damage was Tony Martini's ego when he ended up on the tarmac after Erling's 1955 100 fired up and took off like a drag racer.
All in all it was a super day for exercising those wonderful Austin Healeys and checking the block for a Valentines date with our sweethearts.
