Saint Johns Austin Healey Club Minutes for June 3, 2025

Club President Mike Foster called the June member meeting to order at about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday night. The meeting was held at Bella Vista, an Italian cuisine restaurant in Fruit Cove. In addition to Mike and his wife Joan, those attending included James and Sharon Gaff, Bill and Judy Young, Bill and Char Maroney, Erling and Sandy Onsager, Tony Martini and Ron Keysor.

The minutes of the May 5 meeting were approved. Mike then offered Treasurer Paul Sandefer’s monthly club financial report showing the club bank balance at $$$$$$. This reflected a $108.52 expenditure for the luncheon/shop/social meeting hosted by Bill and Judy Young on May 20. Members were sent after event an email with a brief report on that gathering accompanied by a couple of photos of the member Healeys driven to the Young home in Switzerland.

Membership Chair Bill Maroney announced that Stephan and Randy Heise of San Mateo, FL, near St. Augustine, have joined SJAHC and our parent organization, the Austin Healey Club of America. Membership now stands at 33.

Last night’s business meeting following the rather lengthy dinner was likely the shortest in memory. There was mention of the event mentioned earlier held at Bill Young’s home, Tony Martini spoke of a luncheon drive that likely will be scheduled during the next two weeks. Bill Gaff said he finds his Healey runs better now that he has put gas in the tank. He also measured the tank capacity at 14.4 U.S. gallons. Many Healey owners carry a graduated stick to check the actual content of their gas tanks owing to the notorious difficulty experienced with the gas gauges on our cars.

Mike Foster also revealed that the fouling on the first three spark plugs in his restored Healey was caused by the sticking front choke on the front carb. Fixed. There was also some discussion about the nature of car windshields after Mike found an unexpected material on a damaged windshield on his driver. The consensus is that car windshields are constructed of a laminate, not a single piece of glass.

The meeting concluded at about 7:25 p.m. The July meeting will be hosted by Rick and Marilynn Stevenson at their Mandarin home. They were unable to attend last night’s meeting, as was Paul Sandefer, who continues to deal with a serious eye problem.

The minutes of last night’s meeting are being sent out on both Pages and Word as some members do not receive one or the other.

R.Keysor, Sec.
